Blame it on the boogie
Saturday, October 11, 2008 8:24 PMSo the holidays are drawing to a close, and I can't believe it's gone. I did nothing. NOTHING. Karma should reward me or something for actually bothering to sit down and write some notes for yearlys. I finished History, Geography, Health, Maths, Science & History Minor notes. I ACTUALLY FINISHED THEM. Or to what I thought was finished, due to some missing notifications (thanks a lot teachers!) Good news is I'm pretty much just finishing up on Ag, Commerce & English notes. Oh, the joy I shall feel when the Yearlys are over, before the stress kicks in of anticipating my results...eh, it's just Year 9. For now. Anyways, updates. I got the new Nano :) Also got a shoulder bag, but I lost the photo of it. Sorry Jasmine - I'll show it to you at school one day or something :). Now here's some food for thought. When the time comes for half yearlys, a lot of people (okay, just those who are dedicated to studying, and those who frantically cram at the last minute) do put some form of effort into studying for it. But when the time comes for yearlys, no one's really bothered (exlcluding the dedicated ones). Pretty much like these holidays. Holidays are meant for us to relax, teachers! Not study! Although we can feel the anxiety of not studying, studying is just out of the question. You sit there thinking " Damn, I sholud do something...", but you don't and so you continue with gaming, MSN-ing, sleeping, eating etc. You justify yourself by saying "It's the holidays man!". Then when you are hit with the sudden realisation that the yearlys are looming just around the corner, you start to panic and stress and a whole stream of profanities escape from your mouth. You then cram as much as you can, or you just give up. And it's at that point my friends, that you think to yourself " Oh, I should have studied". You think this every single time, yet you don't do anything about it. That's okay - I'm a victim to it myself. While talking to my cousins, I learned the answer to something that has always been in the back of my mind. Oh yes, it has been in my mind since I was a kid. Okay, not really the answer - but you gotta admit, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON YOUR MIND PEOPLE. If you want to know what I'm talking about, take a look at this...okay no, just skim through if you're lazy :) Controversies Tinky Winky Tinky Winky started a still hinted-at controversy in 1999 due to his carrying a bag that looks much like a woman's handbag (although he was first "outed" by the academic and cultural critic Andy Medhurst in a letter of July 1997 to The Face). He aroused the interest of Jerry Falwell in 1997 when Fallwell alleged that the character was a "gay role model". Falwell issued an attack in his National Liberty Journal, citing a Washington Post "In/Out" column which stated that homosexual comedian Ellen DeGeneres was "out" as the chief national gay representative -- while trendy Tinky Winky was "in."This has caused many Christians to boycott Teletubbies because it makes them think that Teletubbies support homosexuality. He is also found performing his Tinky Winky Round and Round Dance in a ballet-style tutu from time to time, which is also often worn by Laa-Laa.(Supporters of the interpretation that Tinky Winky is gay may take this as evidence) A February 1999 article in the National Liberty Journal, published by evangelical pastor Jerry Falwell, warned parents that Tinky Winky could be a hidden homosexual symbol, because "he is purple, the gay pride colour, and his antenna is shaped like a triangle, the gay pride symbol".[8] A spokesman for Itsy Bitsy Entertainment Co., who licenses the characters in the United States, said that the bag was just a magic bag. "The fact that he carries a magic bag doesn't make him a homosexual. It's a children's show, folks. To think we would be putting sexual innuendo in a children's show is kind of outlandish", he added. In May 2007, Polish Ombudsman for Children Ewa Sowińska revisited the matter, and planned to order an investigation.[9] She said in the May 28, 2007 edition of Polish magazine Wprost that the woman's handbag-carrying Tinky Winky could promote homosexuality. Journalists from Wprost mentioned claims the Teletubbies promote homosexuality, to which Sowińska replied that she had heard of the issue. The journalists then asked about Tinky Winky. "I noticed that he has a woman's handbag, but I didn't realize he's a boy", Sowińska told the magazine in an interview her office approved before publication, adding: "Later I learned that there could be some hidden homosexual undertones." Sowińska said she would ask her office's psychologists to look into the allegations "and judge whether it can be shown on public television and whether the suggested problem really exists." But on May 30, 2007, Sowińska said in a public statement that she no longer suspected the Teletubbies of promoting homosexuality. She said: "The opinion of a leading sexologist, who maintains that this series has no negative effects on a child's psychology, is perfectly credible. As a result I have decided that it is no longer necessary to seek the opinion of other psychologists."[10] In an unrelated incident reported in 2000, a girl's Tinky Winky toy reportedly said "I got a gun". Kenn Viselman, then chairman of the Itsy Bitsy Entertainment Co., claimed the toy actually said "Again, again!", a catchphrase from the show." For more please visit : Okay yeah, so everyone's thought Tinky Winky's gay at some point, cos of that handbag thing he wears (LOL). But seriously, why go to such measures to see if his sexuality affects little kids? IT'S A TV SHOW FOR KIDS PEOPLE. LET THE LITTLE KIDS ENJOY THE SHOW FOR WHAT IT IS. LET THEM ENJOY THE SUCKING VACUUM MACHINE AND THAT CUSTARD THING THEY EAT. :) And if Tinky Winky's homosexual, good for him. :) And to end this blog, a shout out to Greek (WEEBOLLABOLLA), and so I leave you with this picture that Jasmine so kindly drew for me and left in my pencilcase. xoxo |
